Most store bought shampoos can be taxing on black hair. While alot of women co-wash (use only conditioner) throughout the week, and use shampoo periodically to avoid drying out the hair – there are other alternatives for cleansing and clarifying the hair and scalp.
Shampoo Bars are a great option for women looking to clarify often and get rid of build-up (even though co-washing definitely won’t leave the hair or scalp dirty in the least bit).
Here are a couple of brands that looked especially inticing:
1. Chagrin Valley:
Ingredients: Saponified oils of castor bean, coconut, palm kernel, wheat germ, sunflower, babassu, jojoba, palm, and expeller pressed canola; filtered rainwater; coconut milk; sea kelp; essential oils of lavender, sweet orange, pink grapefruit, lime, rosemary, and ylang ylang; rosemary oil extract; and vitamin E oil.
This shampoo bar is vegan/organic and the site deems that it is also great for curly, dry hair. It’s also said to moisturize without added residue.
